What is Munen?
Munen โ a screen-time app that remembers how yesterday went. Every night, on your device, Munen scores your full day: how much you used the apps you marked as distracting, app switching, late-night scrolling, long sessions. Then it places you in one of five zones, and that zone sets today's friction โ the pause before a distracting app opens, and how long a breather lasts once you continue. A rough day earns a firmer pause. A good one and it's a tap, two seconds, out of your way. Why the next morning, not the moment Punishing you while you're failing is what blockers do, and it's why they get deleted. Munen never hardens the friction mid-slip. It scores the whole day overnight and starts each morning with a new contract. You always know why, because the score is transparent โ no black box deciding you were "bad." And the decision stays yours at every step: you can adjust your own zone, the shield always has a bypass, and if you come back early from one, those minutes go back on your side of the ledger. Free core. Premium adds friction intensity control, faster zone adjustment, and the personalized AI. Built by one person. Launched in August.
Key features
- Five zones โ Your friction level, recalculated nightly, never more than one step per day. A bad Tuesday can't wreck the week. You can adjust it yourself: once a day on free, every four hours on premium.
- Shields that speak in your words โ Before a distracting app opens, the shield shows the reason you wrote for wanting less screen time, and the alternative you picked for that moment. Not a generic lecture. Yours.
- Reclaimed life โ Continue past a shield and you get a breather. Come back before it ends and you reclaim the minutes you didn't spend โ they accumulate into a running total of time you chose to keep.
- A coach that has actually read your week โ Not a generic chatbot. It knows your metrics, your zone history and how the week has gone, and it answers from that.
- Journal, with a weekly read โ Write whenever, tag how you feel right then. Each week Munen reads your last entries and gives you four things: an overview, what you handled, a pattern it noticed, and one thing to try next week.
